$1800 is needed for a single Backyard Agriculture Project Family to become a commercial swine finisher, chicken grower, sausage producer.

A commercial swine producer sells pigs to the cooperative. He also provides technical and veterinarian oversight.

The families get to keep 18 chickens and most of their egg production.

Radio Encounter is a 501C non-profit organization

About half of the $10k investment is spent on organizational costs and facilities development.

The other $5000 is used to finance the purchase of  pigs, chickens and feed.  This money is never placed in the hands of the cooperative. It goes out of the bank account and back into the bank account every 3 months as the pigs are bought and sold. ( See: Financial Accountability)

Every time the pigs are sold, the money received from the sale is used to purchase more pigs and feed. Profit only is distributed to the cooperative.
